Two pieces of Artwork: which goes on top?

I believe I was reading an interview by Albert Hadley when I learned of his penchant for hanging the larger of a pair of artworks above the smaller of the two to create an appealing and sophisticated energy in a room.  - Rachel Krauskopf (via design sponge).

I like this look, it keeps things interesting.  It is funny how once I read that quote, how often I noticed pictures of interiors where the larger piece of artwork was on top.  I guess Albert Hadley wasn't the only one who thought this was a good look! :)

  1. Huh, interesting. I'll be on the look out for this as well. I can't say it's my first choice but I can see that it shakes things up a little bit especially when it sits above a chest or chair.

  2. It's funny, this approach to hanging artwork seems so unconventional, but it really does allow the art to stand out. And of course if Albert Hadley said it, it must be good advice.

  3. I've been noticing this look lately, too. At first it seems wrong, but the more I look, the more I like.

  6. Sorry, a traditionalist here. The larger on top actually "weighs" me down.

  7. This is an on-going argument with my aunt, mom, and me. They think small on top, I think large on top. Now I can gloat!
