Cafe Shutters

I don't think I ever shared with you that every single window in our home has cafe shutters.  I've never owned a home that had interior shutters and I must admit I really like them.  They are so convenient and practical.  And, my favorite thing is in the mornings to open them all up - the shutters seem to disappear and the sun just comes pouring in.

If you're stuck with what to do with window treatments (especially in the bathroom) cafe shutters is a great alternative.  Southern Living even recommended them as a 'tried and true' decorating tip.  Would you ever consider them?

  1. No, you haven't shared that but another reason I love your house. That's so nice to have them. I would consider them for our next home. Hope you guys are staying warm up there. A friend drove back from Boston the other day and said that CT roads were pretty bad.

  2. My parents' home has them and whenever I go over there, I open them up...love all that natural light! I do like the look of them but probably would never get them for my house...I'm too cheap and they aren't;) Lovely photo up there...is that your home?

    1. I know what you mean, Kat. We were lucky that our house already had them when we bought it. Yes, that is a picture of one of the windows in our living room.

  3. It looks great, Fran. I love shutters, and yours look like they're in great shape. The powder room I'm currently working on has them, and they felt so dated to me that I recommended removing them and doing a fabric shade instead, but seeing yours might change my mind--maybe they just need painting instead?

  5. hi fran! they are lovely! i have always liked them and think they are classic and timeless. when we built our first home it was my very first purchase for the down stairs rooms. even before we had decent furniture. dusting them wasn't my favorite activity but i did love they way they looked and miss them in our current home! tessa

  6. First of all, that is a gorgeous photo, Fran. Second of all, I love those shutters. I grew up with them in my bedroom. I think they're another one of those things that will be very hard to find in the next fifty years or so. I'm glad you plan to keep them.

  8. I also love how easily interior custom shutters can add privacy to your home. It adds elegance and beauty to your home. I think houses will look better if they have the right shutters.

  9. It seems like you only have the shutters on the bottom part of the windows. Am I right with that? ;) What's on top of it? I've seen photos of rooms having windows with cafe shutters and Roman shades. The combination sets off cozy ambiance. The bottom treatment works more for privacy while the shades are for filtering the light.
