What do you spy?

I'm slowly trying to pinpoint the overall look and feel of our future home.  I know I want the majority of the rooms to have a neutral palette with bits of color while reserving a room or two for full on color and pattern (i.e. powder room, guest room, etc.).

Here is a smorgasbord of images that are currently inspiring me.  I do see commonalities.  But, I need your help....

I need a fresh eye, what similarities do you see?

Can you help a friend out, what do you spy??

  2. Let's see...there is a consistent use of neutral with accents of black throughout, and perhaps more importantly: each room is filled with antiques or vintage pieces. Nothing screams "brand new" or identifies itself as being from this place or that. Love the inspiration you have going here, Fran.

  3. Neutral walls and curtains with splashes of color here and there. Texture brought in with rugs, natural elements (plants, bamboo, driftwood) and lots of layers on coffee table/chests.

  4. One common theme that I see is an eclectic style, with pieces that look as if they have been collected over time. Looks like some thrifting is in your future!

  5. Oh how fun, Fran! You know I love this kind of thing and before I get started, I have to say how much I love each and EVERY ONE of these rooms.

Contrast really seems to be the name of the game with your style. I see woods both refined and rustic, metals of all sorts -- especially gilded and black metal, glass (lots of glass coffee tables), neutral upholstered pieces, walls, and window coverings, lots of dark/light contrast. Color -- as you said, neutrals with blues, greens, yellows, and sometimes pinks/reds. Also, I think it's important to note that the bones of the rooms are all very traditional with beautiful moldings (built-ins) and often high ceilings. Large windows take prominence here too. You like lots of light, I think.

  6. I think the young woman from Vintinque Object really captured all the similarities. I will say that as a color pop, while not in every pic, most though had some blue or blue and green. All very lovely.

  7. oh how fun. i spy bookcases, books, and more books. texture in baskets, seagrass, layered rugs, wicker furniture, wood floors, cane back chairs. there is some type of almost sculptural piece of furniture in each space too either in chair or table, something that looks one of a kind, and adds a youthfulness/modern element to otherwise classical rooms. i'm not a designer so i can't describe this in the right terms. but i'm betting you can figure out what i'm saying. also lots of pattern and color on pillows and throws. these rooms all look very personal to me which is what makes them so appealing. have fun!!

  8. I agree with everyone and would add that most of the images are "color balanced" meaning cools balanced with warm wood tones/textures or pops of pink/red. Or when a room is mostly neutral, the colors are gray tempered with warm white. Each room is timeless.

  9. Three words came to mind for me: collected, neutral, and texture. And I think these are some great inspiration photos. I also love the look of that Viennese coffee as well - we are big coffee fans in our house and looks delightful.

  10. I have just found your blog. And thought I would comment. I really like the airy feel, of the pictures but also all the bookcases you have posted.

I agree with the small pops of black in the chairs and picture frames. and the colour from the book spines really makes this for me.

off to read some older posts.

  11. I know I'm late to the game on this, but I'm loving all your inspirations. Lots of contrast, warm woods, light curtains, light walls, splashes of greenery, a collected look. Yummy!
