Brick in Kitchens

We returned late last week from Belgium where we visited my brother and his family.  We had a great time and Luke had a blast playing with his cousins.  We're settling back into our routine and it recently occurred to me that we only have 3 more months left here in Vienna.  I can't believe it.  It has me a bit in a tizzy trying to see and do everything before we leave.

Simultaneously, I'm online house hunting daily which is seriously a downer - my fantasy of owning my dream house is seriously being compromised by reality.  Ugh.  Thank goodness for blogging which allows me to keep on dreaming! :)  Lately I've been dreaming of kitchens with a dose of brick.  Scroll down to see what I mean.

I love the juxtaposition of brick and white together with small doses of black thrown in.  In my opinion, I think the above four images really portray that nicely.

I have never really been a true lover of pine, but this kitchen has me thinking otherwise and I love how Emerson kept the original brick fireplace.  I think I would have considered painting it white, but I like that she didn't.

I have seen a lot of brick fireplaces (like the one pictured above) in my house hunting.

Do you like the look?

  1. Hi Fran! I was once lucky enough to have a kitchen with a small wall of exposed brick. It added such a rugged textural element. And I agree with you - so special when combined with white!

  2. I LOVE BRICK IN KITCHENS! Especially on the floor! Just designed a kitchen using "Wine country" brick pavers! Oh, it was so great!

  3. Welcome back! I'm typically not crazy about unpainted brick (except if we're talking about the exterior of a home), but I like these uses of brick, especially the brick floor in the fourth image. What a cozy look.

Are you planning to move back to CT after Vienna?

  4. What?! Didn't you just move there, and now you only have three months left? Time flies.

As for brick, I like it in kitchens too -- and still waffle back and forth about whether to paint it on my fireplace.

I hope you find a kitchen with brick. Whatever you find, you'll put your stamp on it and make it wonderful, Fran.

  5. Normally I'd say paint, but you're right. These look good. I guess it depends on the brick.

  6. Hmm, I probably would have painted it too. And just three months left? Hope you have lots of travel, travel, travel planned for the time you have left there!
