<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A while back, I posted about this project <a href="https://greenstreetblog.blogspot.com/2017/05/a-clients-living-room-design-plan.html">here</a>, where my client originally hired another designer to help her with this room, but midway through the design process, my client wasn't happy with the direction. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is when she contacted me and asked if I could help her (midway through another designer's design). This was a first for me, however, I was very excited about the prospect. We set out to create a light, airy and serene living room (using some existing pieces), but also adding various amounts of texture (slubby linen drapery panels, velvet like club chairs, a wool rug and beautiful lighting) to help pull this room together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The major differences with this new design is the space plan that really opened up the living room (placing the sofa in front of the window made such a huge difference), painting the room a warm white and investing in some key furniture pieces to make it feel really comfortable and functional. See more details <a href="https://greenstreetblog.blogspot.com/2017/05/a-clients-living-room-design-plan.html">here</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Working with her existing gray tufted sofa and glass coffee table, we were able to tie in a variety of other key pieces while keeping the monochromatic color scheme. Down the road, my clients plan to get rid of the wall to wall carpet and install hardwood floors, which I think will make such a difference! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In the meantime, I think this is a beautiful room that they will enjoy for years to come! :)</div>

When she started to implement the design plan, the previous designer suggested, she slowly started to realize that she really didn't love the design and as a result, felt stuck.<br />
<br />
That is when she called me to ask for help.<br />
<br />
I think this happens more often than not. People hire designers and many times it isn't a good fit. The designer perhaps has a style that the client doesn't like OR the client has a style that designer just doesn't like. It happens.<br />
<br />
Below is the current state of her living room (all pieces the previous designer recommended).<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>BEFORE</b></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rdNqji_FXIk/WSJNzjAGL2I/AAAAAAAAIAw/yeGlTGUFZtQDrZUw_owtEMgC_BECFyR0QCLcB/s1600/IMG_8791%2Bcopy%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="538" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rdNqji_FXIk/WSJNzjAGL2I/AAAAAAAAIAw/yeGlTGUFZtQDrZUw_owtEMgC_BECFyR0QCLcB/s640/IMG_8791%2Bcopy%2B2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
When we met, we discussed her likes, dislikes and her budget. She had already paid a previous designer and spent quite a bit of money on a partially finished room that she didn't love. So, I had some non-negotiables I had to work with - namely, the contemporary tuxedo sofa, coffee table and abstract artwork. <br />
<br />
The first thing I do when I start my decorative process is to focus on the floor plan. Everything else comes later.<br />
<br />
I didn't love how the previous designer used an abbreviated wall for the sofa wall. You can't tell from the picture above, but there is an entry into the room to the left of the sofa. Second, the layout felt so 'staged' to me. <br />
<br />
You want the floor plan to be functional and natural. So, I suggested she flip-flop the room to offer more balance and better traffic flow. See below. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1yd30W3QzDw/WSJY1zIYYsI/AAAAAAAAIBs/nmc9DRNBHdYue3AqZ-xzM7t96v127C8GgCLcB/s1600/floorplan.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="404" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1yd30W3QzDw/WSJY1zIYYsI/AAAAAAAAIBs/nmc9DRNBHdYue3AqZ-xzM7t96v127C8GgCLcB/s640/floorplan.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
The sofa now sits in front of a window (on a full wall) allowing clear traffic flow from the entry hall into the family room (through french doors). Moreover, the sofa is now centered utilizing the whole room. The chest of drawers (with a mirror above it) sits on the opposite wall (where the sofa used to be) and the mirror will reflect light (from the opposite window) making the room brighter.<br />
<br />
While my client liked most of my suggestions, she particularly liked the new floor plan. After I got her buy-in, I then started working on the rest of the design. <br />
<br />
Since this is the young couple's first home, I suggested the bulk of their budget go towards quality furniture pieces that are classic and timeless in nature. They can always save later for the beautiful designer textiles. I also wanted to keep the room 'fresh' and not too stale. I tried to mix traditional with modern to help keep the room varied. <br />
<br />
Last week I presented the final plan using their non-negotiable pieces. My client's words were, " I love it. This is exactly what I was hoping for!" That made me happy. I am looking forward to seeing this plan come to real life!<br />
<br />

It's girly, it's fun, it's young and fresh!! Perfect for an eight year old girl!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-h0et_-d_bWE/WKSq5ucBr-I/AAAAAAAAH70/JhqWGGMxW8QY9BF8z_dOqjqDshSiDsBqgCLcB/s1600/02-09-17%2BFran%2BMurphy%2B007%2Blowres.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-h0et_-d_bWE/WKSq5ucBr-I/AAAAAAAAH70/JhqWGGMxW8QY9BF8z_dOqjqDshSiDsBqgCLcB/s640/02-09-17%2BFran%2BMurphy%2B007%2Blowres.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
The Lowmans, who live in Birmingham, emailed me seven months ago asking if I would be interested in helping them design their 8 year old daughter's bathroom. Beth, the mom, and I knew of each other through instagram/blogging. Needless to say, I was completely flattered that she asked for my help. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jf2BnoHQTes/WKSrHDYI4zI/AAAAAAAAH74/cO24nbT5t2sx1nhOy5YIDaf8hFpvflouACLcB/s1600/02-09-17%2BFran%2BMurphy%2B001%2Blowres.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jf2BnoHQTes/WKSrHDYI4zI/AAAAAAAAH74/cO24nbT5t2sx1nhOy5YIDaf8hFpvflouACLcB/s640/02-09-17%2BFran%2BMurphy%2B001%2Blowres.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
She and John sent me pictures of their bathroom mid "tear down" and Beth basically said, "...whatever you think, Fran!" <br />
<br />
I remember sending her an inspiration picture of a bathroom I found on pinterest with bright blue hexagonal floor tile and asked her if she liked it. She wrote back and said her daughter, Elizabeth, loved it! <br />
<br />
I knew her daughter, Elizabeth, and I would hit it off!! And, while I know Beth and John, were a little reticent about the blue tile; in fact, Beth told me later, "we just tore out blue tile and now we're putting blue tile back in!?!?".....I knew it would be the right amount of 'fun' to make this bathroom perfect for a young girl!<br />
<br />
Once the tile was selected, everything else just fell into place....<br />

This past weekend, I moved our piano to the opposite (and smaller) wall in our living room. It makes more sense and felt like a huge breath of fresh air to finally have it moved. This is how I quickly styled it (using everything I already had).....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1SBQEOB3juc/WH4j2MuoeBI/AAAAAAAAH3Y/FcC6lY8cURcKHviG6CYSLvrnW4_0Rm1wACLcB/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2017-01-17%2Bat%2B9.00.53%2BAM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1SBQEOB3juc/WH4j2MuoeBI/AAAAAAAAH3Y/FcC6lY8cURcKHviG6CYSLvrnW4_0Rm1wACLcB/s640/Screen%2BShot%2B2017-01-17%2Bat%2B9.00.53%2BAM.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>sorry for the bad iPhone pic!</i></div>
<br />
In my opinion, you can choose different approaches to decorating around a piano depending on your personal preference, style or need. <br />
<br />
Since my piano sits in our living room, I wanted a simple and formal look. However, if our piano sat in our family room, I might consider something like this using family photos:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SMFVjytgfyg/WH4ern7WHmI/AAAAAAAAH2w/5bVGt-9j--0PlJGJUOPHPj_83ZcrhejJACLcB/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2017-01-17%2Bat%2B8.35.34%2BAM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SMFVjytgfyg/WH4ern7WHmI/AAAAAAAAH2w/5bVGt-9j--0PlJGJUOPHPj_83ZcrhejJACLcB/s640/Screen%2BShot%2B2017-01-17%2Bat%2B8.35.34%2BAM.png" width="542" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
If you want more of a casual approach, I would do a gallery wall. Adding a gallery wall helps soften the rather large piano and also helps to fill the blank walls around it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-COW5ULz-gek/WH4dT-qykDI/AAAAAAAAH2k/o-tZT6J9mB0_V2xcnu4Ro5msBbBS1UssACLcB/s1600/df26fca4bf1bed50b4213ae32492364e.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-COW5ULz-gek/WH4dT-qykDI/AAAAAAAAH2k/o-tZT6J9mB0_V2xcnu4Ro5msBbBS1UssACLcB/s640/df26fca4bf1bed50b4213ae32492364e.jpg" width="512" /></a></div>
<br />
If you want a casual look, but are not up to the task of hanging a gallery wall, consider a layered look. I really love this look too....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Q3Qltwp-cv4/WH4fJhuKupI/AAAAAAAAH20/ctQhWs4UIIcYJHbI486x-LkqAJ1F0N0ZgCLcB/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2017-01-17%2Bat%2B5.53.18%2BAM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Q3Qltwp-cv4/WH4fJhuKupI/AAAAAAAAH20/ctQhWs4UIIcYJHbI486x-LkqAJ1F0N0ZgCLcB/s640/Screen%2BShot%2B2017-01-17%2Bat%2B5.53.18%2BAM.png" width="382" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lBDZlPkPjKY/WH4fbCZSj-I/AAAAAAAAH24/sv1Ke5tbvr0O3KRAN9QTVXgpERDrNdGNwCLcB/s1600/c1fa3e7bb9405acd5469dbf307a07506.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lBDZlPkPjKY/WH4fbCZSj-I/AAAAAAAAH24/sv1Ke5tbvr0O3KRAN9QTVXgpERDrNdGNwCLcB/s640/c1fa3e7bb9405acd5469dbf307a07506.jpg" width="436" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Have a piano, but you don't want to make it the focal point? Consider painting the room a bold color....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0l98JlnkGC0/WH4fsi33OLI/AAAAAAAAH28/62JviDjoTb4GDXqQQk2y1riJF2oMKlx7wCLcB/s1600/piano_gallery_wall_thumb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0l98JlnkGC0/WH4fsi33OLI/AAAAAAAAH28/62JviDjoTb4GDXqQQk2y1riJF2oMKlx7wCLcB/s640/piano_gallery_wall_thumb.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
OR add an oversized mirror or an oversized piece of art....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k_lSIqRTYEE/WH4f5DVB-qI/AAAAAAAAH3A/28hoUNGERF4V3ml8TgGrEaBnzju0mcjbQCLcB/s1600/Black_Piano.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k_lSIqRTYEE/WH4f5DVB-qI/AAAAAAAAH3A/28hoUNGERF4V3ml8TgGrEaBnzju0mcjbQCLcB/s640/Black_Piano.jpeg" width="474" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(BTW, love how this piano is a matte black!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And, if by chance, you happen to be renovating and want to include your piano in the design, I really like this idea of adding a built-in or molding details to distract your view from the piano, but add a great display of accessories! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-niPJEtUfYsM/WH4gr1SKU8I/AAAAAAAAH3M/ozoLqfIV3f82yRzU_PgP1lzmN08-3BsEQCLcB/s1600/Built-in%252Bpiano%252Bnook%252B%257C%257C%252BStudio%252BMcGee-1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-niPJEtUfYsM/WH4gr1SKU8I/AAAAAAAAH3M/ozoLqfIV3f82yRzU_PgP1lzmN08-3BsEQCLcB/s640/Built-in%252Bpiano%252Bnook%252B%257C%257C%252BStudio%252BMcGee-1.jpeg" width="630" /></a></div>

This is (by far) my favorite project they've showcased. I like to call it the 'new traditional'. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0YZKIZ27Hpw/WG99uvnQQyI/AAAAAAAAHzQ/NNgeh38XGKkP-xURBuvSYt4s3PKQMVgIgCLcB/s1600/1483555174819.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0YZKIZ27Hpw/WG99uvnQQyI/AAAAAAAAHzQ/NNgeh38XGKkP-xURBuvSYt4s3PKQMVgIgCLcB/s640/1483555174819.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-T_Wd4wQX4jg/WG9979RZcBI/AAAAAAAAHzU/Rd2A3SLEuaENO34xggnSU2lZ5Yk41UyBwCLcB/s1600/1483555370507.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-T_Wd4wQX4jg/WG9979RZcBI/AAAAAAAAHzU/Rd2A3SLEuaENO34xggnSU2lZ5Yk41UyBwCLcB/s640/1483555370507.jpeg" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In a square room like this one, a round table is a smart design choice. Helps make the room easy to navigate. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Sv1QCqIxjIk/WG9-DOgAjGI/AAAAAAAAHzY/7PjXq1aVHWMmS_uMuBdYG_fx3QBYmp8ogCLcB/s1600/1483555278020.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Sv1QCqIxjIk/WG9-DOgAjGI/AAAAAAAAHzY/7PjXq1aVHWMmS_uMuBdYG_fx3QBYmp8ogCLcB/s640/1483555278020.jpeg" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Mixing in modern elements, like this lamp, helps keep the room feeling young and fresh. Like the lamp, but not the price tag? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://www.hayneedle.com/product/surya-gilani-table-lamp.cfm">Here</a> is a similar one half the cost. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The dining room is a show stopper, no? The Hollyhock wallpaper! I'm in love. The mix of the light wood furnishings with the dark wood stained floors helps keep the room feeling fresh and airy. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Like floor color? Mix one half Ebony and one half Jacobean from Minwax to achieve a similar wood stain.</div>

This space has been a life saver and it functions perfectly. <br />
<br />
When you enter from the garage, you directly walk into the kitchen (with no mudroom) and you might remember one of the first things I did was to create a mini mudroom by converting a <a href="http://greenstreetblog.blogspot.com/2014/06/from-hanging-closet-to-itsy-bitsy.html">hanging closet into a mini mudroom</a>. See original post <a href="http://greenstreetblog.blogspot.com/2014/06/from-hanging-closet-to-itsy-bitsy.html">here</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EmpiSZYMPMU/WDLYj2M-xqI/AAAAAAAAHv0/eO8VR2MEmVE06bOWNSlxeADha_rCaMd7wCLcB/s1600/closet_clothes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EmpiSZYMPMU/WDLYj2M-xqI/AAAAAAAAHv0/eO8VR2MEmVE06bOWNSlxeADha_rCaMd7wCLcB/s640/closet_clothes.jpg" width="412" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
We lived with this for about a year, before I decided I need more function. I basically needed places to put things - artwork, mail, magazines, etc. I had to think vertically and use only wall space because there was no floor/desk or counter space to use. You can see my original inspiration <a href="http://greenstreetblog.blogspot.com/2016/01/kitchen-command-central-continues.html">here</a>.<br />
<br />
First, I needed a large bulletin board to hang the kid's artwork, etc. <br />
<br />
When they come home from school, I open up their backpacks and up goes their artwork. Here is how I made the <a href="http://greenstreetblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/diy-nailhead-corkboard.html">bulletin board</a>. The kids (mostly E) love seeing their artwork hung up.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YIvs8xPQUa0/WDLZGR4oseI/AAAAAAAAHwI/GWShM6MTrZUjHu_TLW6_0zP1fZUCItx5QCEw/s1600/IMG_7735.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YIvs8xPQUa0/WDLZGR4oseI/AAAAAAAAHwI/GWShM6MTrZUjHu_TLW6_0zP1fZUCItx5QCEw/s640/IMG_7735.jpg" width="512" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
I hung 3 simple <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10289576/">hooks</a> under the bulletin board to hang my purse (instead of plopping it on the floor or on the kitchen counter), her backpack (it's small and light) or the kids jackets, etc. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pKexK2LB-j4/WDLgOR96D4I/AAAAAAAAHwg/T1RRct0YoPEhT71doZwNas_6zWo9sg_MQCLcB/s1600/IMG_7744.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pKexK2LB-j4/WDLgOR96D4I/AAAAAAAAHwg/T1RRct0YoPEhT71doZwNas_6zWo9sg_MQCLcB/s640/IMG_7744.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
These three simple hooks have made things so much easier! In the above picture, you can see the garage door to the right.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UHt9OC8L9Lc/WDLbIoYG3oI/AAAAAAAAHwM/Wu1UpB9Hz5o70v9RQmuidGFbX6YqZY5fACLcB/s1600/IMG_7743%2Bcopy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UHt9OC8L9Lc/WDLbIoYG3oI/AAAAAAAAHwM/Wu1UpB9Hz5o70v9RQmuidGFbX6YqZY5fACLcB/s640/IMG_7743%2Bcopy.jpg" width="462" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
When you walk directly into the kitchen from the garage, this is your view! I used this wall to put all my paper 'stuff' - think all the mail, catalogs, magazines, coupons, forms, flyers.......basically, EVERYTHING!! Before, I was dumping it all in a basket that sat on the ktichen counter and it was so disorganized. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hktbnZ9PFvY/WDLcIf6AGqI/AAAAAAAAHwQ/NJbHH4YI2t8mjqrV3mKMZt_GQAGI-ahMgCLcB/s1600/IMG_7739%2Bcopy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hktbnZ9PFvY/WDLcIf6AGqI/AAAAAAAAHwQ/NJbHH4YI2t8mjqrV3mKMZt_GQAGI-ahMgCLcB/s640/IMG_7739%2Bcopy.jpg" width="440" /></a></div>
<br />
I bought <a href="http://www.homedecorators.com/p/martha-stewart-living-craft-space-6-slot-magazinefile-storage/00/400/">Martha Stewart's magazine/file storage</a> on sale in canary yellow for half off and spray painted it white. Since the wall space could accommodate one more thing, I got <a href="http://www.homedecorators.com/p/martha-stewart-living-craft-space-corkboard/">Martha Stewart's cork board </a>(perfect size) to sit next to the magazine/file storage. It holds the important numbers, reminders and basically anything that mom wants to put on the board. This wall works double duty!<br />
<br />
Well, there you have it - my two wall kitchen command central!! I absolutely LOVE it and it makes me so happy to walk into the kitchen and not to see a huge mess. Now, there is a place for everything! No excuses!</div>

Happy November! Recently, <a href="http://styleblueprint.com/louisville/">StyleBlueprint</a> Louisville contacted me for some tips on successful holiday entertaining. I thought what a great opportunity, as I recently had to dust off a folding table stored in our attic a couple of weekends ago, when we invited a few friends over <i>very</i> last minute for an impromptu dinner. <br />
<br />
Aren't we all having to do the same thing? Trying to accommodate a large number of guests or even last minute company during the holidays?? <br />
<br />
Below I share how to entertain for a crowd 'stylishly' this season using a folding table and mismatched chairs! Hop over to <a href="http://styleblueprint.com/louisville/">StyleBlueprint</a> Louisville to read more about this <a href="http://styleblueprint.com/louisville/everyday/throw-better-holiday-party/">here</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_GQyvs5iCi0/WCR343OL7LI/AAAAAAAAHu4/rjJmNuN7v2Mgi8cuevoWmTj4lDDBRo_DQCLcB/s1600/IMG_5753%2Bcopy_lowres.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_GQyvs5iCi0/WCR343OL7LI/AAAAAAAAHu4/rjJmNuN7v2Mgi8cuevoWmTj4lDDBRo_DQCLcB/s640/IMG_5753%2Bcopy_lowres.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
To hide my ugly folding table I bought two yards of burlap fabric for under $10 from Joann's to act as the tablecloth and then layered my monogrammed linen hemstitch runner I already owned on top of it. I almost always use chargers when it comes to setting my holiday tables (instead of placemats) as they always make for easy clean-up. Besides, it mixes up your china which lightens the mood. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1lPnr0WN1SE/WCR8XJrpPDI/AAAAAAAAHvM/wm3v7uG7wug6psDnn5thL8d62u43VNhSwCLcB/s1600/IMG_5742%2Bcopy_lowres.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1lPnr0WN1SE/WCR8XJrpPDI/AAAAAAAAHvM/wm3v7uG7wug6psDnn5thL8d62u43VNhSwCLcB/s640/IMG_5742%2Bcopy_lowres.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Another no-fail tip is to always use greenery as your centerpiece. Here, I bought a couple of bunches of seeded eucalyptus from Trader Joe's for $3/bunch and combined it with a dozen of coral colored spray roses from Kroger. The resin antlers holiday ornaments, I picked up from Digs Home and Garden for $15, make for a nice addition to my centerpiece. I also picked up some fallen magnolia leaves (with sprigs of winterberries) from my backyard and used them as an embellishment on each of the guest's plates.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-G1QtjImbfQM/WBsTmSLBFsI/AAAAAAAAHuM/Ck5Zv3fMGaA6S4ZQo3_9w4osnXSux2qtgCEw/s1600/IMG_5743%2Bcopy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-G1QtjImbfQM/WBsTmSLBFsI/AAAAAAAAHuM/Ck5Zv3fMGaA6S4ZQo3_9w4osnXSux2qtgCEw/s640/IMG_5743%2Bcopy.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lots of layers and texture!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s1IfnMANnz0/WCR9pi_4v3I/AAAAAAAAHvQ/1-MZWRVXi-UrOZejMWannn3olZAEI_dhACLcB/s1600/IMG_5767%2Bcopy_lowres.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s1IfnMANnz0/WCR9pi_4v3I/AAAAAAAAHvQ/1-MZWRVXi-UrOZejMWannn3olZAEI_dhACLcB/s640/IMG_5767%2Bcopy_lowres.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span id="goog_966862777"></span><span id="goog_966862778"></span><br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Don't worry about mixing your chairs during the holidays. Here I used my upholstered parson chairs (from Ikea) as the host and hostess chairs and then used my bamboo kitchen chairs for the rest of the seating around the table. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gqnmKBqfFeU/WCSAecW4ELI/AAAAAAAAHvc/CdlLML_SvJMmwtGZF37X7UBmlSfaRajAQCLcB/s1600/framed%2Bnautical.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gqnmKBqfFeU/WCSAecW4ELI/AAAAAAAAHvc/CdlLML_SvJMmwtGZF37X7UBmlSfaRajAQCLcB/s640/framed%2Bnautical.png" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lighting is so important when decorating your table and setting the mood. Candles and table lamps (instead of recessed canned lighting) make your home feel cozy and look more festive. Use pillar, tapered and tea light candles. Any vessel will work! I love the look of mercury glass or iridescent votive candle holders when decorating for the holidays. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

She wanted to update her dining room and wasn't sure where to start. We initially talked about just changing the paint color and well, one thing led to the next, and you know how that goes! :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TNg8_oRCb7Y/V-xyfSvDYDI/AAAAAAAAHsY/9kxpviiwdKk-amy3s3YRMqqSIbWBpSFegCLcB/s1600/Slide1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TNg8_oRCb7Y/V-xyfSvDYDI/AAAAAAAAHsY/9kxpviiwdKk-amy3s3YRMqqSIbWBpSFegCLcB/s640/Slide1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is a breakdown of how her space will get a new look:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1) The things that couldn't change were the aqua colored window treatments and her mahogany chippendale dining room set. To start, I wanted to break-up the all the brown in the furniture and so my client boldly agreed to PAINT her dining room chairs a creamy off-white! The dining room table and chairs pictured above in the design board are actually hers (after she painted the chairs)!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2) My clients LOVES audubon artwork. I suggested a large framed audubon print over her buffet table. It's the perfect spot for something dramatic because you immediately see it in when you enter through the front door. The audubon's colors are fantastic and determined the rest of the color palette for the space. Below is a more detailed shot of what I was envisioning....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SNqnEAecOgQ/V-zjA9o8ZLI/AAAAAAAAHss/1sUMvfjcqOgEaT2yx50CXkQZZOYXLGAfACLcB/s1600/Slide1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SNqnEAecOgQ/V-zjA9o8ZLI/AAAAAAAAHss/1sUMvfjcqOgEaT2yx50CXkQZZOYXLGAfACLcB/s640/Slide1.jpg" width="379" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3) We decided to go bold and paint the walls a beautiful blue green teal. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4) She also has a beautiful hutch I suggested that she re-paint in a chalky, plaster like off-white color with distressed edges. The hutch will be flanked with two Ballard Designs Louis chairs upholstered in green velvet with some contrasting welt. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5) I suggested the Brunschswig and Fils Les Touches fabric for the pillows on her Louis chairs and a warm peacock hue check for the seats of her dining room chairs. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
6) Lastly, we will be accessorizing with a lot of blue and white accessories and bamboo accents as a nod to the hollywood regency look! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

My client felt the original rug I presented was not bold enough and wanted something a bit more masculine. <br />
<br />
We decided to go a little bolder (in color) with a vintage feel that didn't have the steep price tag that typically comes with vintage rugs. Here is a round-up of modern rugs with vintage vibes at reasonable prices....<br />

I hate to say it, but instagram is just so much easier. I promise (hope) to get better! <br />
<br />
One of the projects I've been working on is an office design for a local client here in Louisville who recently moved into a new home over the summer. When discussing ideas for their home office, we agreed that built-ins were a great way to increase the cozy factor and inject a sophisticated library feel!<br />
<br />
My client also wanted the office to have a slight masculine feel since her husband will most likely be using the office, so we ended up painting the built-ins a beautiful, rich navy color. See below. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zSqrXQYSQBM/V-Hm1xppzQI/AAAAAAAAHrk/8bnN-vdHFqo_B5XLTiCmIaM8mdA4qn_nQCLcB/s1600/bookcase.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="474" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zSqrXQYSQBM/V-Hm1xppzQI/AAAAAAAAHrk/8bnN-vdHFqo_B5XLTiCmIaM8mdA4qn_nQCLcB/s640/bookcase.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It was a bit of struggle for her to agree to shaker style cabinetry because she wanted a more traditional look, but I'm so happy she went along with my suggestion. They look great and we will be installing brass hardware pulls and knobs. <br />
<br />
We plan on painting the walls a light sage green and we will be using her current desk and club chair. The plan now is to install new window treatments and an area rug. Below is the design board.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tL4PEPTfbuw/V-HmMxqz8OI/AAAAAAAAHrg/Wic7sHagMgk3WmSOQvQFU05TcMEr3uGlQCLcB/s1600/Slide1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tL4PEPTfbuw/V-HmMxqz8OI/AAAAAAAAHrg/Wic7sHagMgk3WmSOQvQFU05TcMEr3uGlQCLcB/s640/Slide1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I think we are down to selecting the final choice of the rug (different from what is pictured), but stop by tomorrow and I'll share some of my top finds for modern vintage rugs. </div>

Remember me? I apologize for the radio silence!! Summer has been 'happily' full-on with my kid's daily swim practices, baseball games, ballet and hanging out with friends at the pool. Moreover, I've been up to my eyeballs in client projects!! With my kids home full time, I'm doing my design work part-time and am so thankful for these opportunities. Here are some snapshots of what has been going on….<br />
<br />
My local client has moved into a new house and we will slowly be tackling one room at a time, starting with her powder room! The minute I mentioned and showed her Farrow and Ball's color Hague Blue, she fell in love. Here is the inspiration for her powder room….<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Painting to start Thursday…….I can't wait to see it in person!!<br />
<br />
We also are working on her home office, dining room and kid's rooms. Hence, the recent order of Mally Skok purple, pink and orange fabrics. I love her textiles! I am looking forward to using one or two of these fabrics in her youngest girl's bedroom. I think it'll be the perfect complement to BM Silver Bells.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v7LXVdrheVM/V3A-WpLV3-I/AAAAAAAAHpU/fCZZj6J0J8c_GIAHlqkQjmrtxET6DWCTQCLcB/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2016-06-26%2Bat%2B4.41.52%2BPM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="375" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v7LXVdrheVM/V3A-WpLV3-I/AAAAAAAAHpU/fCZZj6J0J8c_GIAHlqkQjmrtxET6DWCTQCLcB/s400/Screen%2BShot%2B2016-06-26%2Bat%2B4.41.52%2BPM.png" width="400" /></a></div>

<br />
I'm also working with a wonderful, repeat client, in South Carolina on her foyer and den. You might remember my post on <a href="http://greenstreetblog.blogspot.com/2016/05/a-hexagonal-table-skirt-for-clients.html">hexagon table skirts</a>; well, her dad has graciously agreed to make her a hexagon table top for her foyer table. Below are the fabric and trim samples I recently sent her for the tailored table skirt. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L9APybCfXxI/V3BAVVXuKWI/AAAAAAAAHpo/NPFTxTXZoPcLaKjUQQxRHmpm0oDIun52gCLcB/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2016-06-26%2Bat%2B4.51.05%2BPM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L9APybCfXxI/V3BAVVXuKWI/AAAAAAAAHpo/NPFTxTXZoPcLaKjUQQxRHmpm0oDIun52gCLcB/s640/Screen%2BShot%2B2016-06-26%2Bat%2B4.51.05%2BPM.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
We are also working on her den and I love it when I get to work with clients whose design aesthetic I just 'get'! I love her sense of style and every inspiration picture she sends me, I get so excited. <br />
<br />
Recently, she sent me the below inspiration she spotted on OKL and you know you 'understand' your client when you have the same exact picture saved on her 'pinterest' design board! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EQpMHOeFB7w/V3BDCx7ZPoI/AAAAAAAAHp4/vlobrxSaOSMepSgqm0eMm55rn7SJr0K7ACLcB/s1600/IMG_3600%2Bcopy.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EQpMHOeFB7w/V3BDCx7ZPoI/AAAAAAAAHp4/vlobrxSaOSMepSgqm0eMm55rn7SJr0K7ACLcB/s640/IMG_3600%2Bcopy.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And, lastly, but certainly not least, there's my newest client from Birmingham, AL. She's a long-time reader and one of my first followers. While we've never met, I already feel like she is a good friend! She has always left the kindest and supportive comments on my blog and IG posts. <br />
<br />
She contacted me over a month ago to help her with her guest bathroom. She wants it to be timeless; using classic elements suitable for guests, but she also wants it to be suitable for her 9 year old daughter who will be using it on a daily basis. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IyVdjSyWl-s/V3BDzs20zPI/AAAAAAAAHqE/tudxlTHZ9CwQEKRizITNR9wfoy6ZR70jQCLcB/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2016-06-26%2Bat%2B5.05.37%2BPM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IyVdjSyWl-s/V3BDzs20zPI/AAAAAAAAHqE/tudxlTHZ9CwQEKRizITNR9wfoy6ZR70jQCLcB/s640/Screen%2BShot%2B2016-06-26%2Bat%2B5.05.37%2BPM.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The design plan I forwarded to her includes subway wainscoting for a truly sophisticated and classic look, but it also includes a bit of fun and whimsy for her daughter. <br />
<br />
This is where Galbraith and Paul fabrics enter the picture to give the bathroom a youthful and fresh feel!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9n3PcdaSHr0/V3EDpMEgdrI/AAAAAAAAHqY/9GCP02crcaMbRgZi9gci-vdY0WDC8zFPgCLcB/s1600/IMG_6394.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9n3PcdaSHr0/V3EDpMEgdrI/AAAAAAAAHqY/9GCP02crcaMbRgZi9gci-vdY0WDC8zFPgCLcB/s640/IMG_6394.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
But, we didn't stop at the fabrics and the plan is to include light blue hexagon tiles for the flooring! It'll be a lot of fun watching this take shape!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3hyoT6_3fGM/V3EDo_uFgRI/AAAAAAAAHqU/XrX_C4Bs_Zk9oZuvyfb0TiIw1Q8LjOCnQCLcB/s1600/IMG_6399.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3hyoT6_3fGM/V3EDo_uFgRI/AAAAAAAAHqU/XrX_C4Bs_Zk9oZuvyfb0TiIw1Q8LjOCnQCLcB/s640/IMG_6399.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So, lots of fun and pretty projects. This summer has been so great and I'm particularly looking forward to the end of this week when we leave for vacation!! Two weeks!! Whoohoo! Happy Summer!<br />

Well, she has asked if I could help her with her entry and family den! Thank you Kim for the vote of confidence!<br />
<br />
My client has a beautiful foyer where she currently has a mahogany pedestal table in the center of it. <br />
<br />
I do love a beautiful table in a foyer. It is the perfect piece to display your treasured collections of photographs, coffee books, topiaries, and blue and white ginger jars. It's also a wonderful way to make a great first impression when people walk into your home. Moreover, you can tailor your vignette as the seasons change. They are also just very functional, it's a place to set your keys and sunglasses as you walk through the door. <br />
<br />
When putting together thoughts for her entry, I wanted to keep the table in the foyer, but I wanted to do two things specifically, 1) soften the look of the round mahogany pedestal table and 2) modernize it.<br />
<br />
So, to achieve that, we are going to do a table skirt to soften things, but we are going to modernize the skirt so it has a tailored look. We are going to think past the typical round shape and do a hexagonal shape. Here is some inspiration.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love how clean and tailored the look is and you have so many options when it comes to designing the skirt. So, how do you achieve this shape? One way is searching for a hexagonal or octagonal table. They are out there, but you will need to do some digging. If you do a search on 'card' or 'poker' tables on ebay or craigslist, you can find inexpensive tables in this shape. See below.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PWURqcDSKNo/V0V8TRkDXuI/AAAAAAAAHok/hezo5s5im8oBUa0OTFbRCkEV6_jchebpgCLcB/s1600/IMG_9921.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PWURqcDSKNo/V0V8TRkDXuI/AAAAAAAAHok/hezo5s5im8oBUa0OTFbRCkEV6_jchebpgCLcB/s320/IMG_9921.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Or, you can try the DIY route. This is the route my client will most likely take and it's all about having fiberboard or plywood cut into the hexagonal shape and securing it to the top of your table. This article comes in handy if you are considering this <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/how-to-skirt-your-dining-room-table-101430347490.html">route</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I will certainly share pictures when it's all said and done!! It's going to be so pretty!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7xIrhSa-Sxo/Vz8G3_01SSI/AAAAAAAAHnc/z1ePB6A7SUUKfgNDuE60AXhyTKhxLnKKwCLcB/s1600/Slide1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7xIrhSa-Sxo/Vz8G3_01SSI/AAAAAAAAHnc/z1ePB6A7SUUKfgNDuE60AXhyTKhxLnKKwCLcB/s640/Slide1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
1) Picked up several of these cute bamboo <a href="http://www.kaycehughes.com/home/paper/bamboo-stationary-blue.html"><b>notecards</b></a> from <b><a href="http://www.kaycehughes.com/">Kayce Hughes</a> </b>when she had her 30% off sale. I plan on having them monogrammed. <br />
<br />
2) I'm really excited about my kitchen nook - it's all falling in place. If you've been following me, you might remember, I purchased this indoor/outdoor <b><a href="https://www.onekingslane.com/p/3664940-keelan-outdoor-rug-denim-5-3-x7-7-">rug</a> </b>to go under the white pedestal table. I will have <a href="https://www.onekingslane.com/p/3174883-blue-casey-side-chair-pair"><b><u>b</u>lue and white pinstriped upholstered chairs</b> </a> and I want a <a href="http://www.shadesoflight.com/mixed-metal-schoolhouse_pendant.html?&xid=585996b2c7981d0b8bac3ec980c460b2"><b>pendant</b></a> (ideally with black and brass) to ground the space. This <a href="http://www.shadesoflight.com/mixed-metal-schoolhouse_pendant.html?&xid=585996b2c7981d0b8bac3ec980c460b2"><b>one</b></a> would be perfect. I would like to add a touch of navy and this <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/249035054368685490/"><b>paint color</b></a> would be perfect! <br />
<br />
3) I recently recommended four of these <a href="https://www.onekingslane.com/p/2812050-striped-22x22-cotton-pillow-blue?SSAID=687298&utm_medium=Affiliates&utm_source=Shareasale&utm_term=354787&utm_content=687298"><b>pillows</b></a> for a client to freshen up her living room for the summer.<br />
<br />
4) I love this <b><a href="https://factory.jcrew.com/womens-clothing/shirts_tops/sleeveless/PRDOVR~F2217/F2217.jsp?srcCode=FBLK00001">top</a> </b>for the summer! I bought two of them in red and blue!<br />
<br />
5) I think this is the perfect <b><a href="http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/hampstead-mirror/?pkey=e%7Cmirror%7C103%7Cbest%7C0%7C1%7C24%7C%7C5&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH">mirror</a> </b>to go in a dining room - over a sideboard or chest of drawers. It's nice to break up all the wood tones that dining rooms usually have and put something a little light and airy. Not to mention, is currently on sale and t'll freshen up your room!!<br />
<br />
So, anything catch your eye?? So, what are you loving these days! I would love to know!!Franhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04708695042866116444noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6908146748140335005.post-10374116083835654692016-05-03T07:50:00.000-04:002016-05-03T07:52:41.206-04:00Visiting Draper JamesMy husband and I escaped for a one night getaway to Nashville this past weekend and it was exactly what we needed (other than more of it, but I will take what I can get)! It took a combination of friends and neighbors to watch my little ones at home, but I guess that is what they call, 'parent life', huh? <br />
<br />
Nashville was great!! First time there and I absolutely LOVED it. The beautifully manicured residential areas with pea gravel driveways, the cool/hip stores on 12th Ave South, the pedestrian shopping areas, Franklin's downtown, Leiper's Fork, and it's very down to earth, southern hospitality and friendliness. It all was so good.<br />
<br />
Of course, I visited Reese Witherspoon's flagship store, <a href="http://www.draperjames.com/">Draper James</a>. I love <a href="http://markdsikes.com/">Mark D. Sikes</a>, interior designer who designed the store, and his use of all things blue and white!!<br />
<br />
It was so MUCH better in person and I truly was inspired. I 'geek-ed' out ALL over this store and it wasn't until I came home that it struck me why the interiors of this store really left an impression on me. <br />
<br />
It had every element of design that I love (and I mean really, really love when creating a home). It was one of those Oprah 'A-Ha' moments where you get to experience everything you love in one space.<br />
<br />
The store is designed much like a home which is such a brilliant idea and concept. When you walk in you're greeted with a large table similar to a large round pedestal table in a foyer and a beautiful plaster chandelier that hung in the store's entry.<br />
<br />
I am obsessed with the store's lighting choices and this chandelier had a Stray Dog Design feel, but I don't believe it is from them. It was large, beautiful and made a statement. And, I LOVED that it was whimsical. It seriously was the last thing I expected as one of the design elements in this southern store and it was so perfect (in my humble opinion). <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--K0qemaKsCc/VygHjPSXMBI/AAAAAAAAHkc/nTxZwePLd0Ir1TC8Zi0XYWhvSySPOwIDgCLcB/s1600/plaster%2Bchandy_lowres.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--K0qemaKsCc/VygHjPSXMBI/AAAAAAAAHkc/nTxZwePLd0Ir1TC8Zi0XYWhvSySPOwIDgCLcB/s640/plaster%2Bchandy_lowres.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next, your eyes are immediately drawn to the back wall where dark navy grasscloth hangs showcasing gorgeous artwork and serves as a backdrop to the store's countertops which are meant to mimic a kitchen island. And, yes, the counters are thick slabs of marble!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lVci-qLOegE/VygKXKLgaAI/AAAAAAAAHks/kMD57sF8Ukg1BxRl5D16TCtIX6xxkZNMQCLcB/s1600/draperjames_grasscloth.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lVci-qLOegE/VygKXKLgaAI/AAAAAAAAHks/kMD57sF8Ukg1BxRl5D16TCtIX6xxkZNMQCLcB/s640/draperjames_grasscloth.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here, the built-ins are meant to mimic kitchen cabinetry or a butler's pantry. I adore the antique brass utility latches on the glass fronts (I recently recommended this style of hardware to one of my clients) and the style of brass hardware pulls used for the drawers. The combination of white and gold really speaks to my love for things a bit feminine, but the brass keeps things grounded which is classic and timeless. The library boston sconce installed above the built-in cabinetry ties in the gold and white and looks brilliant next to navy. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Pictured above are the modern counter stools pulled up to the store's countertop. Another element I love is the bit of California thrown into an otherwise traditional, classic and all-American mix! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This beautiful brass and navy lantern hanging near the vibrant blue whicker chairs imitate the 'family' or living room. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Pictured above is the 'family room' and I love how <a href="http://www.serenaandlily.com/playa-stripe-dhurrie---blue/m10246.html#start=3">Serena and Lily</a>'s blue tonal striped dhurrie is layered over a natural fiber rug coupled with the blue <a href="http://bieleckybrothers.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Bielecky-Complete-Catalogue-Low-res.pdf">Bielecky Brothers</a> wicker lounge chairs. The chairs were SO comfortable!!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I saw dentil molding, vertically planked walls and beadboard. Above, an example of the store's full length mirror encased in beautiful molding! The store's walls were either pristine white backdrops or wallpapered in either beautiful paper or fabric, as shown below. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Above was another favorite spot of mine. It did the perfect job of resembling a kitchen nook. Obsessed with everything about this space. I love Carolina Irving's <a href="http://www.carolinairvingtextiles.com/palermo">Palermo</a> (whimsical) print and <a href="http://www.carolinairvingtextiles.com/patmos-stripe-reverse">Patmos Stripe</a> on the banquette. All these fabrics work beautifully together! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A close-up of the gorgeous textiles with the beautiful navy and brass sconce!! LOVE! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The store's fitting rooms - gasp - obviously, resembling a home's bedroom and/or closet area. I am dying to use Farrow and Ball's closet striped <a href="http://us.farrow-ball.com/closetstripe/wallpaper/fcp-category/list">wallpaper</a> in someone's home!! Again, dark navy doors with brass fixtures!! Here, we see a repeated design element of stripes. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dg15BZRt8Ao/Vyh7s8RM0AI/AAAAAAAAHmk/eVAb1dFby90alq0Hz3vTLoKnrhI9uHBwACLcB/s1600/draperfb_lowres.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dg15BZRt8Ao/Vyh7s8RM0AI/AAAAAAAAHmk/eVAb1dFby90alq0Hz3vTLoKnrhI9uHBwACLcB/s640/draperfb_lowres.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love the play of vertical and horizontal stripes in the same space!! So fun! And, the closet hooks!! I need these! I found a similar type <a href="https://www.schoolhouseelectric.com/charter-cast-iron-hook.html">here</a>, but not in the brass finish. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HxRM5S8EFKo/Vyh9m-VNZLI/AAAAAAAAHmw/B9fkitu_Obg7Wj5XQDeSdHWp_PoRptbrACLcB/s1600/draperFB_close-up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HxRM5S8EFKo/Vyh9m-VNZLI/AAAAAAAAHmw/B9fkitu_Obg7Wj5XQDeSdHWp_PoRptbrACLcB/s640/draperFB_close-up.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've used the sconce's shade fabric in a client's project before and I love it!! Perfect for a fabric covered lampshade. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The color scheme was definitely blue and white, but I love how Mark Sikes threw in 'yellow' to keep things fresh, young and modern. He has such an amazing eye and love all his touches of playfulness.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kyeF2e5VfSI/VyiA6EZWSNI/AAAAAAAAHm8/fV9QdONCBJ0i2efZYvn1LZ3I8xmcb-0xQCLcB/s1600/yellowartwork_lowres.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kyeF2e5VfSI/VyiA6EZWSNI/AAAAAAAAHm8/fV9QdONCBJ0i2efZYvn1LZ3I8xmcb-0xQCLcB/s640/yellowartwork_lowres.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I will have to save the artwork for another post - it definitely was a highlight of the store as well as, the store's bathroom, believe it or not!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Visiting this store did not disappoint and it confirmed all the things I love and would like to emulate in my own home. It gave me loads of inspiration and perhaps the little shove I need to finally finish some projects. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Case in point, I immediately purchased this <a href="https://www.onekingslane.com/p/3664940-keelan-outdoor-rug-denim-5-3-x7-7-">rug</a> to go in my kitchen nook! :)</div>

I couldn't resist. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

1. This gorgeous white Visual Comfort pagoda-esque <a href="https://www.onekingslane.com/p/3554797-andrew-table-lamp-plaster-white">lamp</a> is on mega-sale on OKL. I completely envision two of these flanking a <a href="https://www.onekingslane.com/p/1501172-marianna-rattan-writing-desk-amber?sales_event_id=65429">console/desk</a> with a bold mirror or a fun piece of art.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. I love John Robshaw's new fabric, <a href="https://www.duralee.com/Duralee/Duralee-Fabric/Product/DE42514-563.htm">Sata</a>, for <a href="https://www.duralee.com/">Duralee</a> and I could see this fabric upholstered on a Cisco Brother's <a href="http://www.ciscobrothers.com/seating/sofas/piper-loveseat">Piper loveseat</a> with this <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/237987161534941972/">paint color</a> on the walls!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. This pick is a departure for me, but hang with me for a moment. I saw this wallpaper used <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/142004194479441368/">here</a> and I just loved it! I think it could look fabulous in small doses and I can't believe it is from Thibaut!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. This is such a fun <a href="http://www.roomandboard.com/catalog/office/desks/slim-desks-in-colors">desk</a> at a reasonable price that comes in SO many colors! Would be fun as a console! It reminds me of Blu dot's strut <a href="http://www.bludot.com/strut-modern-console-table.html">console</a>, but with a lot more color options and for a lot less.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5. Lastly, who doesn't love a good <a href="http://www.art.com/products/p21576016116/product.htm?RFID=217825&ProductTarget=95166485210&gclid=CIuDi4zQrcwCFQuPaQodPWMJUg">audubon</a> print! Seeing these prints in the latest HB issue reminded me how much I truly do love them and need to find a spot in my home for one! </div>

She lives in a very charming 1930's home in an older and very quaint neighborhood of Louisville. Her home is beautiful. She loves design and actually worked in design in her younger years, but solicited my help to act as a sounding board and offer some opinions.<br />
<br />
Below is the inspiration picture she shared with me for her kitchen.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WIzoTdRWds8/VxkuAr5ItGI/AAAAAAAAHjE/3z5NwaipFaYRnbnN5AqTt3_levoPqbEIQCLcB/s1600/SB_inspiration.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="472" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WIzoTdRWds8/VxkuAr5ItGI/AAAAAAAAHjE/3z5NwaipFaYRnbnN5AqTt3_levoPqbEIQCLcB/s640/SB_inspiration.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It has been super fun working with her as she loves design so much. She is inspired by the clean and simple feel of the kitchen above and wants a fresh take for her kitchen. Her kitchen is small, but perfect for her as she lives alone. See below.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RwlGK0KsKOg/Vxn-ELJJtGI/AAAAAAAAHjY/DZkGr6yGLgI6We-E0DnhIo7RPUzurFP6ACLcB/s1600/carolinairving_green.50%2BAM%2Bcopy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RwlGK0KsKOg/Vxn-ELJJtGI/AAAAAAAAHjY/DZkGr6yGLgI6We-E0DnhIo7RPUzurFP6ACLcB/s640/carolinairving_green.50%2BAM%2Bcopy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Isn't it wonderful??!! That stove! I completely love it. So charming! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We both agreed she needs to remove the soffits to open up her kitchen and give her more height. Aesthetically, it'll look cleaner with the shaker style cabinets. We both agreed that moving her refrigerator to the opposite wall and extending the counter to the right of the stove would be a smart design move. She said she could afford more counter space especially when she entertains and has her family over. Ideally, it would've been great if she could've centered her stove with counters on either side, but is limited to the exhaust/vent/fan. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
She is going to keep her current corian countertops (you can see them peeking out in the bottom left corner) and she is investing in new shaker style cabinets. I loved it when she also wanted brass hardware and is considering black mullions for her kitchen window. Very english, no? She will be replacing her current F&B wallpaper with a fresh botanical from GP & J Baker. I love that she still wants wallpaper in her new kitchen!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can see all the design elements below. It's going to look superb!!</div>

Originally, we were considering it for her formal living room, but when the sample from Ballad Designs arrived, she thought it would be best suited for her family den. <br />
<br />
Fast forward, she has also received a sample from Myers. See below.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DIq66s4ufY8/VxRBqqFP2yI/AAAAAAAAHhc/K_mzfZfFRVc6saGItdIf2l2-5-9ClhKHQCLcB/s1600/antelope%2Brug%2Bsamples.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DIq66s4ufY8/VxRBqqFP2yI/AAAAAAAAHhc/K_mzfZfFRVc6saGItdIf2l2-5-9ClhKHQCLcB/s400/antelope%2Brug%2Bsamples.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">{L: <a href="http://www.myerscarpet.com/prints.html">Myers</a>, R: <a href="http://www.ballarddesigns.com/antelope-hand-tufted-rug/377344">Ballard</a>}</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
More decisions still need to be made, but she really would like to have an antelope rug and I was all giddy when she was on board with that! It really will 'up' the cozy factor in her den. Let's take a look at this beauty….<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2fAQm2EQq2k/VxRB4O5WfxI/AAAAAAAAHhg/EaOcSkEiiUcMvDZtYMo6DoorycrDX-KZgCLcB/s1600/ea777313d7efe37402c1b628486e403a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2fAQm2EQq2k/VxRB4O5WfxI/AAAAAAAAHhg/EaOcSkEiiUcMvDZtYMo6DoorycrDX-KZgCLcB/s640/ea777313d7efe37402c1b628486e403a.jpg" width="468" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love how something so unique and bold when looked at it on it's own can be so subdued in the right environment. It really is the perfect neutral. </div>

If you have the budget, the Antelope Ax from <a href="https://www.starkcarpet.com/antelope-ax/">Stark</a> seems to be the one I frequently see in shelter magazines and such. There are also less pricer options from Myers, Ballard Designs, and I would check out your local rug/carpet retailers. I think <a href="https://www.biscuit-home.com/">Biscuit</a> even carried them (I'm not sure if they do any more). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, what say you - are you a fan? Do you own one? I would love to know!!</div>

<br />
When we started on her family room, her budget was tight. We had to work with her existing furniture and there was not a huge allowance for new fabrics, pillows and such. <br />
<br />
We've also changed directions in regards to the design of this room……in the end, she found her style and knew what she wanted.<br />
<br />
The biggest impact areas I saw were changing the wall color and investing in window treatments. She did both. <br />
<br />
She painted her entire great room a new color and actually sewed the window treatments for her large window wall. Can you believe that??<br />
<br />
She wasn't sure about installing woven shades, but after some convincing, I'm glad she did, because they make all the difference. She loves how finished and cozy the room now feels.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2P5jVx9gyYc/VwMNY_5_VsI/AAAAAAAAHgw/fKVWzYlRynUtkwjsp-UP6hEOAId_p94Bw/s1600/SA_familyroomAFTER_np_lowres.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2P5jVx9gyYc/VwMNY_5_VsI/AAAAAAAAHgw/fKVWzYlRynUtkwjsp-UP6hEOAId_p94Bw/s640/SA_familyroomAFTER_np_lowres.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i><span style="font-size: x-small;">Client's Photo (not professional)</span></i></div>
<br />
Above, you can see how the room looks like today. <br />
<br />
She recently told her husband that she <i>finally</i> feels comfortable in their home and how much she truly loves it. They are a young family with two toddler boys.<br />
<br />
As part of my design consult, I recommended that she:<br />
<br />
1. Invest in a new media console<br />
2. Hang her flatscreen on the wall<br />
3. Place a sofa table behind the sofa (against the window) to add some depth/interest to the window wall<br />
4. Purchase large gourd lamps to go on sofa table<br />
5. Add a round end table to connect the two sofas and break up the hard lines. <br />
6. Lots of light colored pillows to break up the leather sofas which she did and chose all by herself<br />
7. Paint walls lighter and brighter color<br />
8. Add window treatments and woven shades<br />
<br />
She has done an amazing job!! And, just to emphasize where we started. Below is the before picture when we started working together. Notice the large blue painted window wall - so happy that no longer looks like that!<br />
<br />

<br />
She has come such a long way and has been such an incredible client. I can't wait to show updates on her <a href="http://greenstreetblog.blogspot.com/2016/01/a-kitchen-refresh.html">kitchen</a> when it is all said and done!! They say the greatest form of flattery is when a client you love working with asks you again to help them with a new space! I couldn't agree more and am certainly grateful!! <br />

If you've already seen it, I am sorry you have to see these pictures again, but I couldn't resist not sharing on my blog. It's that good. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have to admit this room's paint color has me completely rethinking the paint color I picked for my living room (FB Blackened). I was all set for a very pale gray with blue undertones, but now I see this and I am rethinking my decision. Ugh. I hate when that happens.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If I ever win the lottery, I would love to own Paule Marrot's piece of art called 'Clouds' seen above over the tortoise looking console. In my dreams, I know. It is so beautiful, calming, serene and feminine. </div>

Back to Rebecca's home. I love the white octagon coffee table and bits of rattan. Hillary Thomas' shop has a gorgeous white lacquered octagon table (just like this) (on super sale) <a href="http://shop.hillarythomas.com/collections/furniture/products/laquered-octagon-coffee-table">here</a>. If I had the space, I'd snatch it up! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of course, I spot all my favorite designer's fabrics in my favorite colors.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So much goodness - woven shades, Lulu DK art, ticking slipcovers, awning stripes, raoul textiles…..the list goes on! I love how the decor is so effortless and eclectic. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Ahh…the bedroom. Blues and pinks. Love it all! So many things to study and to look at. Do you remember her NY apartment published in <a href="http://www.vogue.com/slideshow/755640/apt-with-lsd-rebecca-de-ravenel-photos/">Vogue</a>? See below. This is how her bedroom looked back then.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
And, here is more of now.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Raoul's blue and white Kashmir delft gets me all the time! How wonderful does it look on that little tufted settee and in her bedroom! And, the pink shaded sconce? I remember that settee in her NY apartment which was in her living room. See below. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

It's always fun to see how designers re-purpose their furnishings. The settee looks great in both settings. <br />

Kinda like a blender drink, no? Throw all the things you love in a blender and bam, you got one fabulous smoothie or a great frozen cocktail!<br />
<br />
I realize that isn't always the case and editing is involved, but I was playing around with things I am currently loving lately and this is what I came up with. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yPnZPDMCSSc/VuaZgXRzeUI/AAAAAAAAHek/-lrA7_YShOw12IPO3Wzq3eu1m8tLfaoSw/s1600/Slide1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yPnZPDMCSSc/VuaZgXRzeUI/AAAAAAAAHek/-lrA7_YShOw12IPO3Wzq3eu1m8tLfaoSw/s640/Slide1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/pealegreen">Paint</a>: Happy St. Patrick's Day! Loving emerald green lately probably because I used a darker hue in a client's living room, but I want to use this color more. So classic. I would love to paint a den or study in this rich, classic color. It has me questioning my own LR and DR color schemes! Ugh!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://search.brunschwig.com/Brunschwig-and-Fils-Print-Blue/8012138.5-1328/CoverInformation.aspx">Drapes</a>: I've been a long-time lover of Brunschwig & Fils classic print, Les Touches and would love to use it in a project. It's SO classic but fresh at the same time. I can see them in a dining room as drapes - they would make such an impact. And, if, that isn't in your budget, buy a yard or two for your chairs or as a tablecloth!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.fibreworks.com/fibers/470-bakari/">Rug</a>: I guess I've been hiding under a rock, but just recently found out that Fibreworks is based in Louisville. I recently met with a representative to get some of their Bakari samples. Love this oversized graphic diamond pattern and it would look super chic in a dining or living room. It keeps the room from feeling too formal or stuffy.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://search.brunschwig.com/Brunschwig-and-Fils-Print-Green/BR-79785.432-1328/CoverInformation.aspx">Pillow</a>: Another fabric I'm just dying (DYING) to use and I might need to get it for my own home. Brunshwig & Fils Chevron Bar silk warp print. They have a beautiful blue colorway too!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://furbishstudio.com/products/tortoise-hurricane?variant=857534313">Tortoise</a>: I NEED more tortoise in my home. I realized I don't own a single piece. What is wrong with me?<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.onekingslane.com/p/3426351-sawyer-table-lamp-tea-stain">Lamps</a>: While I love me a beautiful gourd, these super chic lamps are so gorgeous, no? They have a beautiful crackle finish.<br />
<br />
Lastly, I apologize for the absence from this blog and IG. Both my kiddos got hit with the flu these past two weeks and when that happens you go into survival mode. Thankfully, we have a healthy family again and this will be our first week back to school! I found <a href="https://www.instagram.com/brookecrewinteriors/">Brooke Crew Interiors</a> who is based in Greenwich, CT while perusing IG and was SO, SO inspired. If you don't follow <a href="https://www.instagram.com/brookecrewinteriors/">her</a>, you are missing out!<br />
<br />
I am in love with her designs and I'm particularly infatuated with the work she is doing on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/ctompkins31/">Catherine Tompkins</a>' home in Greenwich. Her home is beautiful!! Think Sister Parish, Elizabeth Eakins, Raoul Textiles, Bennison, Quadrille and Dune and Duchess. I don't think it gets much better, does it?<br />

It's flying, I tell ya. This week I received a photo of my client's new art in her living room!! I can't wait to share some pictures!! In the meantime, this room below has my name ALL over it. Seriously, there isn't an element in this room that I don't love! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ROfjTRytL4A/VsW4OEUH7QI/AAAAAAAAHcA/_afDb2szwZw/s1600/d6db6f50df1ccfdcae7b5ceefc85039e.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ROfjTRytL4A/VsW4OEUH7QI/AAAAAAAAHcA/_afDb2szwZw/s640/d6db6f50df1ccfdcae7b5ceefc85039e.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I love how <b>fresh</b> (and not dowdy) Colefax and Fowler's bowood (fabric on the sofa) feels in this room!! Love the touches of pink, ticking club chairs, morrocan tables, candlestick lamps, rattan ottoman, animal print rug, that drum pendant and Quadrille's Persepolis wallpaper!! I mean it all works!! So genius. I found this picture via <a href="http://www.isuwannee.com/">I Suwannee</a>. I'm dying to know the designer! <br />
<br />
Anyone know?? It reminds me of <a href="http://www.hillarythomas.com/">Hillary Thomas</a>' work??Franhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04708695042866116444noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6908146748140335005.post-57956606243691421522016-02-11T14:17:00.000-05:002016-02-11T15:12:08.780-05:00$100 or less (kid-friendly) Counter StoolsThere are so many options when it comes to counter stools. Should they have a back or be backless? Should they swivel? Should they be wood or metal? The list goes on……and then there is your budget. Counter stools are expensive, you guys!<br />
<br />
Luckily, my client's requirements for counter stools were specific - preferably backless, not upholstered (she has two boys so she needs to easily wipe them down) and preferably less than $100 each. <br />
<br />
Here is a round-up of options I found that roughly fit her requirements. First up, metal or non-wood options.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
